Judiciary

Every day, our federal courts make critical decisions that impact the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land our families enjoy. Judges who serve on these courts hold lifetime appointments, which is why the nominations process is so important. Partisan judges who consistently rule for polluters over people threaten to undermine our foundational environmental protections and reverse steps to address climate change. We need to ensure that the judges appointed to our courts are qualified and nonpartisan — our democracy is at stake.

We work to make issues such as climate change, public health, and the corrosive impact of polluter money in politics strategic components of reviewing judicial nominees. We educate our supporters, the public, the press, and elected officials about the tremendous impact that the courts have on environmental protections, and we engage them in elevating these issues for both the Supreme Court as well as for lower-level judicial nominations. We also help to lead and grow the coalition of environmental groups engaging on judicial nominations.
