Student Conservation Voters
Mobilizing the Next Generation of Leaders
Student Conservation Voters, formerly Project Democracy, is a national, youth program of the League of Conservation Voters Education Fund that trains and organizes students to make their voices heard in elections and with elected officials. Student Conservation Voters students work to educate their peers about the issues and encourage them to get out and vote.
More than 20 million young people aged 18-24 voted in 2004; an increase of 9% over 2000. These figures represent the highest youth voting turnout rate in decades, changing the conventional wisdom that young people are too apathetic or cynical.
This year Student Conservation Voters chapters and affiliates will be involved in a variety of campaigns including fighting against global warming, working towards a clean energy future, and providing better access to voting for students. We will provide campaign materials, organizing toolkits, and trainings to all interested students.
