Global Warming

Global warming is rapidly escalating into the single greatest threat to the security of our nation and planet. From a scientific standpoint, it is clear that bold and immediate national and international action is imperative. This will require galvanizing the public and political leadership necessary to address global warming.

LCV Education Fund is recognized as a leader on energy and climate issues.  Our work on global warming continues to focus on building unprecedented public support for bold action on energy and global warming.  Our approach is to educate and mobilize key individuals and constituencies to convey the message that rebuilding our energy system is an opportunity to create millions of jobs by developing new industries and technologies.

Through LCV Education Fund’s global warming project, The Heat Is On, our goals are to:

· Work with the U.S. Congress to develop and implement environmentally sound policies on clean energy and reduction of global warming pollution, and to reform current federal transportation policy.

· Encourage the Obama administration to take regulatory action and adopt the strongest rules possible to reduce global warming emissions.

The foundation of The Heat Is On project is the strength of the state LCV education funds in our network.  Currently, we are working with the state LCV education funds in AK, CO, FL, ME, MI, MO, MT, NC, NH, NM, NV, OH, SC, VA and WI.  The state LCV education funds provide a strong grasstops component – tapping longtime relationships with opinion leaders and influentials – while also working to mobilize key constituencies such as labor, business, veterans and farmers..
